Haymarket Up Late returns for an enjoyable evening of art, culture and community! Join us on Friday 4 April from 6–8pm for a special after-hours art walk through the vibrant Haymarket district, where you can explore the lively Neon Playground 2.0 and visit four galleries. Stop by 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Blank Gallery, Nasha Gallery, Passage Gallery and Suite7a within walking distance of each other in the heart of Haymarket.

Chunxiao Qu: as tragedy / as farce

Experience two solo exhibitions at 4A. Morikawa’s photography captures diverse subjects across Japan and Australia, while Qu’s neon light installations, presented with Neon Playground 2.0, explore emotional resilience through tragedy and comedy. Expect intimate portraits, cultural landscapes and striking neon works reflecting on history, identity and human experience.

Nasha Gallery launches HOLOCENE by multidisciplinary Asian-Australian artist Kien Situ. Drawing from his Chinese/Vietnamese heritage, Situ’s work spans sculpture, sound, and installation, exploring migration, identity, and transformation. Expect immersive works blending traditional materials with industrial elements, challenging perceptions of space and culture. Join Nasha for the opening reception.

Travis Ficarra: The Love of the Brute

The Love of the Brute by Melbourne-based artist and composer Travis Ficarra. Drawing on virtual worlds and fantasy, Ficarra’s practice blends 3D modeling, digital mediums and installation. Expect tangible CGI goblins amidst a deconstructivist fence landscape that challenges perceptions of space and boundaries. This immersive work destabilises form and function, inviting reflection on the unreliable nature of structure and porous boundaries.

Join Eleni Christou at Suite7a for Cypriot coffee and fanouropita, baked in honour of a lost blue heart pendant. ‘The Things We Miss’ zines by Eleni and Kim Siew will be available, supporting PARA Foundation. A rare chance for coffee after 3pm in Sydney.
