Soraya Abidin is a contemporary textiles artist whose practice explores the notion of interculturalism through commonalties of beading, embroidery and quilt crafts practiced by her Malay and Australian ancestors. Her recent works crisscross her bicultural heritage, by exploring the materiality of the ‘in-between’ space through the pairing and clashing of materials and techniques: unable to be divided, they continuously spill into one another. Soraya is a self-taught artist and her work has been exhibited and published nationally and internationally.
