Shyamla

Shyamla is a multidisciplinary Artist, Choreographer, Educator and Presenter who facilitates intercultural experiences and advocates for anti-discrimination through the arts. In 2019 they founded BINDI BOSSES, an independent South Asian Arts company, which debuted at Red Rattler Theatre and has since performed at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Castle Hill Powerhouse, 4a Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, TEDxSydney, Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney Opera House and more. 
Shyamla regularly travels to India to practice and perform the traditional Tamil arts of Yoga, Parai Attam (drumming dance) as well as Silambam and Kuthu Verasai (martial arts) with their Chidambaram school Silambam Arts. They have brought these ancient artforms to the steps of the Sydney Opera House for its 50th birthday and performed in solidarity at the 2025 Gadigal to Gaza event at Factory Theatre.
Shyamla was awarded the 2020 Multicultural NSW Premier’s Harmony Medal (Arts & Culture) and has choreographed for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (2018), Schools Spectacular (2018), Sydney Kings/NBL (2019) and Sydney Opera House. 
Shyamla holds a Master of International Human Rights Law & Policy and draws on 35+ years dance experience to work with children and young people with complex trauma, refugees and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. As a former Board Director at Ausdance National and mentor for the Australian Literacy & Numeracy Foundation, Shyamla strives to ensure independent artists are respected and supported through BINDI BOSSES
Co-host of 4ESYDNEY Hip Hop Conference (2022), Shyamla was the Ambassador and Host of SSI’s New Beginnings Festival and Freedom Sessions (2019-2022) interviewing icons like BARKAA, DOBBY, Bukhu, Putrika, Ayebatonye and more. In 2024 they hosted Gayasian Stories at Parramatta Pride (2024) and Amplified Festival at Sydney Opera House.
