Isabel Rouch
Isabel Rouch is a Sydney based Artist, Curator and Arts Director, Isabel Rouch was born in Moruya, Australia in 1989. She has spent the past eight years studying and working between Mexico and Australia, graduating in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New South Wales, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UNSW Art and Design, Sydney; including one year exchange at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico.
In 2014 Isabel co-founded Interlude Gallery Inc, a not-for-profit contemporary art platform which she co-directed through to June 2018; working with over one hundred and eighty national and international artists and writers, on over sixty exhibitions. She is currently focused on her independent curatorial and artistic projects, and has been selected to participate in the 4A Curators' Intensive program in July 2018.
Isabel sees her practice as being of an anthropological nature, and is presently interested in exploring the dynamic of identity through language. Having always been drawn to the tactility of making, she continues to value the ability and/or urge for haptic interaction with artworks. Navigating the current climate of rapid and often vacuously consumed visual content, Isabel questions how this affects our connection with contemporary art, and seeks to potentialise it using interdisciplinary and multimedia expression and communication.
