BINDI BOSSES

BINDI BOSSES is a progressive, matriarchal South Asian Fusion Arts company based in Warrang (Sydney) that seamlessly blends Traditional South Asian Classical and Folk dances with influences from South Asian Cinema and Street dances from around the world. It provides a platform for diverse artists to collaborate, create, share stories and express culture through Dance, Design, Henna Art, Styling, Photography, Videography, Spoken Word and more while paying respects to First Nations custodians and peoples.  

Shankari (she/her) is a Dancer/Performer, Engineer and Graphic Designer. She studied Bharatanatyam for 19 years in Malaysia under her Guru, Dr Amirtha Davi Sakathevan, completing her Arangetram in 2018. Shankari continued her training after moving to Sydney in 2012 at Bharatalaya Dance Academy. Shankari has Performed and Choreographed for USYD Dance Society productions, Gaana Galatta (2018) and BollyAus Nationals (2019), fusing Indian Classical Dance, with her other styles - Hip Hop/ Western dance. She recently performed in MARGAM with Niraivadhi Fine Arts. Shankari joined BINDI BOSSES in June 2019 as a Performer and is now BINDI BOSSES Brand Manager and Graphic Designer, having designed the BINDI BOSSES logo, merchandise and necklaces produced in collaboration with CQ Aboriginal Jewellery. She has performed with BINDI BOSSES at TEDx Sydney, Qudos Bank Arena with L-FRESH The Lion for Sydney Kings/NBL, Oxford Art Factory, and facilitated workshops and fundraisers in 2021.

Sarangi (she/her) is a Dancer specialising in Bharatanatyam and Kandyan. She has trained in these styles within her community in Sydney Sarangi is a member of BINDI BOSSES as an aspiring dancer and has performed with the company at various special events including TEDxSydney, a same-sex wedding, Sydney Kings Half-Time with L-FRESH The Lion and Corroboree at Nurragingy. Sarangi completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram at the age of 16, under her Guru Suromi Herath. She has performed at the Opera House and has choreographed for MAYA, a charity organisation. She also holds a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Management and IT. During her time at University, Sarangi was a part of a team which won a business pitch competition. Sarangi joined BINDI BOSSES in 2019 as an Artist and is now BINDI BOSSES Merch Coordinator. When not performing, Sarangi enjoys gardening and playing with her Cat Chuti.
