Tina Stefanou
She/her
Tina Stefanou is an undisciplined artist, vocalist, and performer who explores the performative potential of vocality to traverse ideological, material, species, and socio-economic precarity and thresholds. Her practice often involves collaborations with more-than-human participants, working-class communities, and specific sites, employing cine-ethnographic cinema, live performative actions, and sonic-tactile interventions. She also works in experimental and improvised music settings, using spontaneous composition to explore more-than-human capacities and social-class effects on the voice. This has culminated in a nearly 20-year vocal career spanning experimental opera, song-making, and improvised assemblages across diverse musical terrains and collaborations. Her work has been performed, broadcast, and exhibited internationally and nationally including: E-flux Screening Room (NYC), Salt Museum (Istanbul), Festaal (Berlin), the Art Gallery of South Australia, Gertrude Contemporary, Cementa22, Journal of Sonic Studies, Buxton Contemporary and Carriageworks among others.
