Teether & Kuya Neil

When rapper Teether & producer Kuya Neil began to collaborate in late 2020, two powerful forces in the Naarm/Melbourne underground came together to create something rare and special. Together, the duo make future-focused rap informed by modern club styles like footwork, gqom and bass music. Teether’s nonchalant but vivid words infuse Neil’s disorientating, hyper-modern production.

In 2021, the duo signed to prolific indie label Chapter Music for their mixtape “Glyph”. The singles “Addy ft. Sevy”, “Lung” and “Carafe” received heavy rotation on local radio, and were featured in the 2022 Netflix series ‘Heartbreak High’. The following year, the duo brought their distinctive brand of experimental rap to the stage, with notable performances at BIGSOUND, Melbourne Music Week, Meadow Festival and RISING Festival, performing alongside acclaimed alt hip-hop outfit Shabazz Palaces.

In 2023, the duo pushed into darker club-rap territory with their 9 track release, ‘STRESSOR’, which was named Album of the Week at FBI Radio and Triple R in it’s first week of release. The lead single ‘Reno’ was featured in The Guardian’s ‘Australia’s Best new music for February’ and gained the duo a spot in Red Bull’s ‘Australia’s rappers to watch’ list.

Teether & Kuya Neil are currently working on their first full-length album slated for release in 2024
